I’ve had a change of name, well the blog has. It is based on the poster which displays the text “Keep calm and Carry On”, this was originally created back in 1939 by the British Government and was intended to raise the morale of the British public in the event of invasion (see wikipedia) in the World War II. The new title is “Keep Calm and Carry On Coding”, it grew from a conversation about these posters one geek filled lunch time. Here’s a little hacked version of the poster based on one from wikimedia (here):
They say the difference between a holiday and an expedition is that you record an expedition. And that’s exactly what I’ll be attempting to do on our “expedition” around south East America; visiting Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and maybe a little Tennessee.
You can see how the route plans out in the following high resolution satellite detailed route mapping overly: it’s a photo of a map with some pins in. The green pins point the direction and the other whiteish “things” show the stops:
Having planned to do the work to combine my two previous blogs together, I thought I’d take the opportunity to upgrade to the very latest WordPress 3.0 version, which includes the all new default theme TwentyTen.
This is already a very nice theme – a much improvement over the last default. It’s also very easy to customise to your own preference, for instance you can change the background colour and add a picture to the background and change the header image all with a few clicks of the mouse. It also makes a very nice base theme.
It uses the search function in your new account to list the possible matches (usually just the correct one!). It works this way because the blog names on blogger are rarely the same as in wordpress, but it encourages people to update their links by showing them it’s different. It also displays a helpful message.
Am enjoying the current Nokia Hunt game here:
The idea is you can win yourself a Nokia N97 (which I love!) for free! If you can find the answers then find the hidden phone that is…
My Nokia Blog is a good place to start too. http://mynokiablog.com/
Got two out of five so far, just three to go…
Yep, I’ve just converted my blog to the new google controlled one, with all the new bells and whistles.
The first one I’ve used, and the one I’ve been most eager for, is the labels part. I’ve just been over the last 25 blogs and updated them with a category, not to difficult as I’ve always tried to add my own flag in each of the blogs under the line below each blog starting “#Flag:”
Something I’m proud to say I added for the very reason that new features were probably going to be added soon!
Probably be other nice features too but not had a good luck round yet so a job for later. Off to bed now though as pretty tired!
Just come across this little extension for Firefox – my web browser of choice – and it basically pops up a nice little text box at the bottom which I can format with all the regular stuff, bold, colour, bullets, etc. But then it automatically adds it to my blog. Sweet. Just what I need when I’m surfing the web and find something I want to tell everyone about: I simply press the “pen and pad” icon and type.
This is the first attempt at using it. Here’s the link: Firefox addon
If your reading *this* then it’s worked. Brilliant!
#Flag: Software, firefox, blogging
So its coming to the end of 2005 and I’ve made an early start on my new years resolution, and what is this resolution I hear you ask? Well, your looking right at it!
Welcome to my first ever blog!
In the last two months I’ve moved 200 miles south to a new job, moved out of my parents house at long last and got myself a nice new apartment. Recenctly bought a new car and I’ve even been lucky enough to find myself a new girlfriend!
Things have certainly changed for me, and for the better so far, and this blog will be an account of my life in this new world…
